We headed out the door yesterday morning. Janiesa took the twins to the elementary school (big 3rd graders now), while I took Anthony for his first day of middle school. He did not hide his nervousness well as we crept along toward his new school. We tried to talk, but it didn't help much. I shared stories of my experiences at that age, which really did nothing but add to his nausea. So we prayed.
We prayed specific requests. We asked God to put people in each of his 8 periods whom he could sit with. We prayed that his nervousness would quickly be turned into excitement and that his butterflies would go away. We prayed for a good start to this three year experience.
Last night, we sat down on Anthony's bed and prayed again together. He thanked God for the friend he put in each of his 8 classes. He thanked Him for taking away his nervousness and making him hungry instead. He finished his prayer by thanking God for giving him someone to sit with on the bus ride home whom was a lot of fun.
I am so thankful that our God answers the prayers of our son going to middle school for the first time. I am also thankful that our middle school son realizes that God does answer His prayers.
I think I'm going to pray more like him today and pray specifically. I'm a little nervous for this meeting I'm about to walk into.
